We were taken on a tour around Australia by complete strangers who became some of our best friends. We were even once temporarily adopted by a family in Texas when we went to play SXSW and they baked us cherry pie and drove us to our gigs.
If it weren’t for the kindness of total strangers putting on shows for us, feeding us and letting us stay at their houses, we would never have been able to do any of the things that we’ve done. The community we found ourselves a part of was so special and really became our lives. We were lucky to be from a town with such a brilliant music scene and venue, the Cavern, and I remember how it felt to travel to so many cities and discover other scenes just like ours. We ended up doing more things and going to more places than we could ever have imagined. We started this band when we were 17 and the biggest goal we could muster up was to release a 7” single. The song represents one of several examples on Let's Try This Again of the band developing beyond 'Ean songs' and 'Jeff songs', and instead creating true collaborations. T Experience's 'Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba', but for Jeff, 'the 'Ba Ba Bas are me tuning out'. The end of the song is a bit of a nod to the Mr. Jeff asked if he could have a go at the verse, and came back a few days later with a Nirvana Molly's Lips / Jawbreaker Boxcar arrangement and new lyrics about 'not wanting to deal with bullshit from stupid people'. For a hot minute, the song was called 'I Learned To Play the Drums', this was also tossed. Ean brought the song into the Subjunctives, who sped it up and promptly tossed the verse. The title was originally 'Always Gonna Be Your Guy' and it was slow and a little too sweet. "'I Don't Have the Time"' started out as a 12 String guitar jangle-pop song that Ean wrote for Tales from the Birdbath, his twee side project of many years.
